Richard Mazda, Artistic Director of The Queens Players & The Secret Theatre

Richard is an actor, director, producer, writer, film director and musician who immigrated to the US in 2004. Following his move to New York he founded a non union repertory company The Queens Players and has written a wide range of material for the group including All The Wild Horses, The Poacher’s Game, Home James, Pirate Pete’s Parrot, Touch of Death, The Bloomsbury Butcher, Double Crossed, The Good Death, Cinderella and 7 Stories. The Queens Players were originally based at The Creek in LIC for approximately 18 months before a change of ownership forced a move to The Jackson, one block away on Jackson Ave, LIC. After another year it was decided that the company deserved a permanent home. We signed a lease for a 1200 sq ft. loft space on the ground floor of The Long Island City Art Center and custom built our own theatre space. The Secret Theatre opened its doors to the public in Sept 2007 after a 3 month construction period and is now entering its second season. The theatre is a very flexible black box style space with capacity for 50+ seats. Although we refer to the space as a ‘black box’ we have mounted successful productions as Proscenium, Transverse, ‘In The Round’, and other environmental situations which have produced an amazing array of differing stylistic approaches.
