iabc grant writing bootcamp

An opportunity to learn valuable lessons from experienced grant writers in the private and public sectors. The panel will review pre-selected case studies submitted by participants and share insights on successful grant writing.

Panelists

Kerry McCarthy, McCarthy Arts Consulting, Principal
Kerry McCarthy, Principal of McCarthy Arts Consulting, provides planning, fundraising, communications, and project management services for nonprofit arts and cultural organizations. Founded in 2000, her firm’s clients include: Big Apple Circus, Long Island City Cultural Alliance, New York City’s Cultural Institutions Group, Queens Council on the Arts and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology. Her insight and expertise are informed by nearly 20 years of experience in museum and performing arts administration. Previously, she served as Director of Development for the Queens Museum of Art, Arts International, and for The House Foundation for the Arts. She has curated exhibitions on folk and contemporary performing arts for The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, The Jim Henson Foundation, and Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta where she previously served as Museum Director. She holds degrees from New York University (MA, Folk Art Studies) and the University of the South (BA, Art History).

Vinford Mentar, JPMorgan Chase, Vice President of Global Philanthropy
Vinford A. Mentar is a Vice President of Global Philanthropy at JPMorgan Chase, who has had the geographical responsibility for Manhattan for three years and is now covering Queens and Long Island. In his current position and geography he is responsible for all of the areas philanthropic giving and community relations. His duties include serving on boards, providing technical assistance to community groups, insuring that vital links between the firm and community exist, providing access to financial services, and the review and administration of grants and sponsorships. Prior to his current position, he served as a financial analyst in the corporate treasury department at JPMorgan Chase, and had responsibility for the Parent Companies Quarterly Performance Report for the Executive Committee. He is a Graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University with a Masters in Organizational Psychology, and a minor in Mediation, Negotiations and Conflict Resolution.

Amanda Miller, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Program Specialist
Amanda Miller has been working with the City of New York Department of Cultural Affairs as an Associate Arts Program Specialist for nearly four years. Prior to this, she received her Master’s in Arts Administration from Columbia University. She has enjoyed her roles at a variety of cultural organizations in New York City and Washington DC including Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Brooklyn Arts Council, Smithsonian Institution and the Kennedy Center.

Michiyo Tanaka-Kuwushima, Mad About Dance, Artistic Director
Michiyo Tanaka-Kuwushima, is the artistic director of Mad About Dance, a Queens-based multi-ethnic modern dance company known for its varied repertoire. She received her M.F.A. from Lehman College (CUNY), where she taught dance and costume design. Ms. Tanaka is currently a faculty member in the Art Department at Bronx Community College where she teaches art history, drawing and ceramics and also teaches dance and ceramics at College of Mount Saint Vincent. In 2005 and 2006, she was awarded an Individual Artist Grant by the Queens Council on the Arts, in 2006 and 2007 she received the Organizational Grant for MAD About Dance from Queens Council on the Arts. In 2007, she an Individual Artist Initiative (IAI) award from Queens Council on the Arts.

To submit your grant proposal for critique at the workshop please send a typed sample of an application in process to:

Submissions should be based on an actual grant application. Only a limited number of submissions will be discussed at the workshop. A submission is not required for registration.
