A panel of industry professionals and artists will discuss accessing the citywide media. PANELISTS Allison Lichter, WNYC, cultural editor Allison Lichter is Culture Editor at WNYC Radio, New York’s biggest public radio station, with 1.1 million listeners per week. She oversees arts and culture coverage in the WNYC newsroom, and coordinates coverage between the station’s arts and culture programs. Prior to her position as Culture Editor, she spent four years as a producer on WNYC’s Soundcheck with John Schaefer, a program she helped to launch. She was born and raised in Queens. Ken Johnson, New York Times, arts critic In 1983, Ken Johnson started writing art reviews for the Albany Times Union newspaper and has since written regularly on contemporary artists for Art In America (1988-1997) and The New York Times (1997 - present). He served as chief art critic for the Boston Globe for a year, but resigned after a year and returned to New York and to writing art criticism for the Times. John Del Signore, Gothamist, theater editor John Del Signore is a senior editor for Gothamist, a website about New York City averaging 4 million page views per month.. His main beat is theater, with some food and fine art coverage mixed in just for kicks. He resides in South Williamsburg amid the ever-expanding shadows of luxury condominiums. David Gibbs, DARR Publicity David Gibbs- clients have been featured in numerous national and city publications, broadcast media, and websites including The New York Times, TimeOut New York, Village Voice, Page Six, The New Yorker, Access Hollywood, NY-1 News, Gothamist.com, TheaterMania.com, and Flavorpill.net. In addition, his clients plays have won Newsday Oppenheimer, NY International Fringe Festival and NY Innovative Theater Awards, and have been published by Samuel French. Hector Canonge, Queens Media Arts Development Hector Canonge is a filmmaker, New Media artist, the director of CINEMAROSA and the founder of Queens Media Arts Development. His most recent work, “parallel grounds,” an interactive installation, is now on view at the Jersey City Museum’s SPRAWL Exhibition. His two video channel presentation axioMetrics, is on view at the Gay Center, Manhattan. In 2007 he was commissioned by the Queens Museum of Art to create the public installation, “MurosDistópicos / DystopicWalls,” and was the recipient of the AIM 27 Residency Program at the Bronx Museum of Art, where he presented IDOLatries. In 2006, he presented 200mm3, an installation about people with HIV/AIDS which was featured at the Paul Robeson Galleries, Rutgers University, Newark, NJ, and at Manhattan’s World Culture Open Center Gallery for World AIDS Day. His films have been shown nationally: Philadelphia Gay & Lesbian Film Fest, MIX NYC, Texas CineAccion; and internationally in Germany, Tokyo and Brazil.
