Panelists

Hoong Yee Lee Krakauer is the Executive Director of the Queens Council onthe Arts. As a lifelong Queens resident,she is a firm believer in the power of the arts to mobilize and transformcommunity. At the Council, she oversees all programmatic activities thatinclude: arts in education initiatives, information services, arts services,and grants programs including the QueensCommunity Arts Fund, the Individual Artist Initiative, the Arts in theSchools Grant Program. For her accomplishments, she has receivedawards from the Municipal Art Society, the Mayor’s Award for Culture & theArts and was honored as the Cultural Leader of the Year of the Top Ten Women inBusiness in Queens and one of the Top 20 Movers and Shakers in Queens. She has recently been appointed to the NewYork City Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission. Her multicultural picturebook for children, Rabbit Mooncakes, originally published by Little,Brown & Company, has been newly revised and released by Moonrattles. Her second book, Little Ghost Dumplings, is in development. HoongYee has served on review panels for the New York State Council on the Arts, thePercent for Art Program of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, theRockefeller Foundation’s Jane Jacobs Medal Jury and serves on the boards of theForest Park Trust, Alwan for the Arts, The Writers Room and Tony Bennett’sExploring the Arts. She is a graduate of OberlinCollege, attended the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austriaand received a Masters of Music in Piano Performance from the Manhattan Schoolof Music.

Josh Rivera

Joshua’s career in Government andpublic service began in Albanyin 1996 as a legislative aid to former Assemblymember Eric N. Vitaliano, whorecently was appointed to a Federal judgeship by U.S. Senator ChuckSchumer. Shortly after departing theAssemblymember’s office, Joshua became Director of Constituent Services forState Senator Vincent J. Gentile who represented portions of the North Shore ofStaten Island and Brooklyn. While in the Senate, Joshua worked onnumerous campaigns including V.P. Al Gore’s Presidential election, ElliotSpitzer’s Attorney General’s campaign and numerous District Attorney, StateSenate and State Assembly races. Herecently spent the last 6 ½ years serving as Legislative Director and Chief ofStaff for Councilmember Leroy Comrie, the Deputy Majority Leader of the CityCouncil. In this capacity, he served asthe Queens delegation secretary for budget andlegislation as well as being appointed to the Council’s Cultural DevelopmentFund panel for the Department of Consumer Affairs. Joshua also served on the panel charged withcreating the White Papers for the Jets Stadium and was a participant in thenegotiations for the new Mets stadium.

Herb Tam

Herb Tam is the associatecurator at Exit Art. Previously, he wasthe Acting Associate Curator at the Queens Museum of Art, New York, where heco-curated Queens International 2006: Everything All At Once, a biennial ofQueens-based emerging artists, and coordinated an exhibition the work of theinfluential former New York Parks Commissioner Robert Moses, among otherprojects. As an independent curator, Mr. Tam recently organized A Jamaica,Queens Thing at the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning in New York. The exhibition of historicalephemera and contemporary art explored the influence of the crack cocaineepidemic in Jamaica, New York on thedevelopment of rap music in the early 1990s.
