1. Can you tell us about your QAF funded project?

New Music Horizons is an arts organization dedicated to supporting new music in the fields of contemporary jazz and classical music. We seek to help new and emerging contemporary jazz and classical composers to build audiences by presenting them in concert and promoting their work. We will be presenting two of our composers in concert on May 14th, 2016 at 8pm at Art House Astoria in Astoria, Queens and October 14th, 2016 at 8pm at Flushing Town Hall in Flushing, Queens.

 2. How do you think this project will impact the community?

At our concerts, audiences will have the chance to hear from the composers as they discuss their work and give some insight into the composition process. Afterwards, the audience has the opportunity to talk with the composers about what they experienced. We believe that this direct dialog between the composer and the people who experience their music helps to build a greater appreciation for the composer’s work and a better musical experience for the audience.

3. How has QCA been helpful in the grant process?

QCA has provided an excellent series of workshops and seminars that have helped to clarify the grant process for us. These workshops have been instrumental in helping us focus our fundraising message.

4. Here is your chance, what do you want everyone to know about your organization?

For great artists to produce great art, they need the support and the platform to succeed. At a grassroots level, New Music Horizons helps to empower our talented artists and provide a platform for them to build a following for their work. We believe that we fill a special need by working with composers who fall between the labels of “student’ and “expert”. It is this group that all too often lacks the critical support to achieve greater exposer for their work and reach the next level of their career. We are proud to work with our artists to spread their music and to help give audiences the excitement of experiencing music in a new way.
