Beach Sessions is a pioneering performance series supporting the presentation of site-responsive work by emerging and established choreographers in Rockaway Beach, Queens. A month-long outdoor series providing dance performances, public events, and environmental initiatives.
1. Can you tell us about your QAF funded project?
Beach Sessions Dance Series is an outdoor contemporary dance festival set on the shores of Rockaway Beach, Queens. The 2016 season will take place Saturday, August 20th 6:30pm and Saturday, August 27th at 6:30pm, free and open to the public.
2. How do you think this project will impact the community?
Through our public programming and performances, Beach Sessions stimulates a critical dialogue about art and the environment in the broader community of the Rockaways.
3. How has QCA been helpful in the grant process?
Funding from QCA has enabled Beach Sessions to increase its marketing and community outreach, and support high-quality presentation. Our 2016 season includes works by Laurie Berg, and Rashaun Mitchel + Silas Reiner. More to come soon!

The mission of Beach Sessions Dance Series is to support creativity in the Rockaways, inspire sustained investment in the natural beauty of the Rockaway shoreline, and facilitate public engagement with contemporary dance on the peninsula.
