LAB presents “Cross-Cultural Stories in Sound, Poetry and Prose,” a reading of short cross-cultural stories highlighting a variety of voices and experiences from Queens. Presented by Judith Sloan and Meera Nair, artists who have a deep commitment to fostering cross-cultural dialogue, this reading will share new and developing works that are born out of their community engagement with Queens residents and artists. Attendees will have an opportunity to dialogue with the writers and offer their feedback on the presented works.
Judith Sloan, writer, audio artist, multidisciplinary artist and co-author of Crossing the BLVD received a QCA individual artist grant to produce Cross-Cultural Stories in Sound, new audio pieces that she will share. QCA grant recipient Meera Nair will read works from her new short story collection Jackson Heights. There will also be a special short presentation by EarSay Youth Voices. “Cross-Cultural Stories in Sound, Poetry, and Prose” will be followed by a Q & A and discussion about the works as well as an opportunity for the audience to share their own stories where divergent cultures intermingle.
