“Grantwriting & Social Media Marketing” is a three-part workshop for ambitious artists who are ready to use the constantly-expanding resource of social media to most powerfully tell their (creative) story. Facilitated by social media marketing guru Carlota Zimmerman and QCA Executive Director Hoong Yee Lee Krakauer, this workshop series will teach creatives how to use social media to articulate compelling stories in a successful grant proposal. Workshop highlights will include:
- Basic Grantwriting
- Getting Started on Facebook
- Collecting & Organizing Content for Social Media
- Identifying your Network
- What Grant Proposal Reviewers Look For
Part 1: Participants should come prepared to work. Ideally, each participant, prior to the first workshop, should have or create a (basic) Facebook, Twitter and Gmail account. Smartphones and tablets are strongly suggested accessories. Participants with project proposals in progress are encouraged to bring their proposals to these workshops- especially on November 20.
Part 2: The second part of this series on November 13, 2015 will feature a review and discussion of the impact of the first workshop on participants' social media strategies. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions about their project proposals in advance of the final workshop's panel review.
Part 3: The third part of this series on November 20, 2015 will feature a panel in which artists’ proposals will be reviewed by QCA staff. Participants will leave with strategies to improve their social media presences and will also have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the workshop.
Carlota Zimmerman launched her coaching business, www.carlotaworldwide.com, in 2008 to help men and women around the world use the tools and life skills they currently have to create the professional opportunities they need. Over the years, Carlota has led workshops at SUNY, CUNY, Queens Council on the Arts and the NY Public Library. At Social Media Week NYC 2015, she moderated a panel, helping female artists use social media to articulate and actualize their career goals. At BlogHer2015, she presented as part of a “Social Media Boot-Camp.” This November, Carlota will be leading a series of “Social Media Round-tables” at the Pennsylvania Women’s Conference, on November 19, 2015.
Hoong Yee Lee Krakauer is the Executive Director for Queens Council on the Arts. She believes in the power of the arts to mobilize and transform community. She was a member of the Transition Team for Mayor DiBlasio, serves on Tony Bennett’s Exploring the Arts Foundation and sits on many grant panels across the country. Hoong Yee holds a M.M. in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, a B.A. from Oberlin College, and attended the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Her children's picture book , Rabbit Mooncakes, was published by Little, Brown & Company.
