THE MAP is a 17 minutes-long dance piece with the score, Crazy Wisdom by Viera Janárčeková, a Slovakian contemporary experimental composer.
monster/THE MAP is based on Trio, a dance piece created in 2014 with two other dancers in New York.
In Trio, I began by researching space and time and through this simple exercise narrative began to unfold. Each dancers told their individual characters with their abstract movements, and they led to a unique story told by their relationships which allowed numerous imagination by the audience. The story kept changing its texture, heightening the intensity and density of the whole piece, leaving silence for a female dancer’s solo.
I would like to push this exploration toward larger group piece to explore more complex relationship in expansive scale.
This work is made possible by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
