Oboist Karisa Antonio and harpist Claire Happel will present three concerts in Queens, NY in October and November, celebrating recently composed music for harp and oboe duo. These concerts will also present a new work commissioned with funds from the Queens Council on the Arts New Work Grant –Queens Etudes by Douglas Fisk, and dedicated to the performers, Claire Happel and Karisa Antonio.
The first concert will occur on Sunday, October 29th at 2:30 pm, at the Chapin Home for the Aging, in Jamaica Queens. The next concert will be hosted by the Forest Hills Library on Saturday, November 18th, at 4 pm. The following day, Sunday, Novemeber 19th, at 7 pm, the duo will perform at the Secret Theatre in Long Island City, as part of the Sounds of Arts Festival 2017.
These Queens concerts will feature works by Harrison Birtwhistle, Elliott Carter, Douglas Fisk, and Whitney Ashe. These works explore diverse musical languages and technical possibilities of the instruments, creating programs both cohesive and surprising.
These events are made possible in part by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
