Xiying Yang, The Sunken Garden
The Sunken Garden is a new painting series by Xiying Yang that will be presented in a group exhibition at the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning’s Miller Gallery. The Sunken Garden series depicts ecosystems with endangered species such as fishes, reptiles, birds, and mammals found in Queens and New York State. The visual styles of Yang’s paintings are inspired by folk art traditions from different regions around the globe, such as East Asia, South Asia, Africa, South America and American India. These symbolic figures, shapes and vibrant colors are integrated into each piece to deliver meaning.
