QAF Grantee, Divya Jyoti Association, organizes the marketing, coordinating, and execution of this annual Hindu Festival of Lights parade and cultural show in Richmond Hill.
Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 3:00 – 11:00 PM
Parade begins at 104-22 133 Street, Richmond Hill, New York and travels along approximately 20 blocks.
The event begins with religious rituals at 3:00pm to welcome the positive energy of the Divine. The venue is a large open ground, near 133rd Street and Liberty Avenue. Tents will be set up for local vendors and community organizations. The Motorcade starts at 5:30pm and has about 30 floats. These floats are prepared months in advance by the participating organizations. They are ornately decorated with themes of divinity, light and hope. Hundreds of young children are dressed as deities and all the costumes, make-up and creativity are a sight to behold. The next phase of the Diwali Motorcade is a professional concert on the community grounds. There will be over 100 performers with a dynamic range of cultural strengths including several local dance groups, live Indo-Caribbean musicians, vocalists, speakers and drama.
