New Work Grantee, Elizabeth Meiklejohn, Present “Soft Survey: Readings of Public Space” -
A Visual Art (Weaving and Performance) Project
Soft Survey is a public weaving project that creates life-size, abstracted maps of public parks in Queens. During this day-long event, the artist will use a traditional loom modified to travel across grass and dirt, recording the shape of parklands in fabric, while sharing knowledge of handcraft and local history. Often performed at home and almost never seen outdoors, weaving is a way of understanding pattern, logic, and the natural world that's deeply rewarding: everyone is welcome to visit, watch, question, learn and more.
