CALL FOR ENTRIES

Queens Council on the Arts and KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency) is proud to announce the second Emerging Artist Business Prize. This is a scholarship opportunity for High School to Art School students and alumni. Generously sponsored by LG Household & Health Care America Inc (LGHHAI), this contest will award a total of $10,000 to seven HS2AS students and/or alumni. As such, this competition aims to provide a platform for the best and brightest young artists in Queens, as well as help LGHHAI grow their brand with visually striking artwork. We are asking for artists to submit their designs to improve the company’s marketing materials.

About LGHHAI

LGHHAI is a large and reputable manufacturer based in South Korea. LGHHAI manages a variety of brands including Whoo, OHUI, Sum, belif, VDL and THEFACESHOP, which are their line of skincare and cosmetic products for both women and men.

Eligibility

All High School to Art School (HS2AS) students and alumni are invited to apply. Applicants need not be from Queens or currently enrolled in school.

Award Levels

Seven artists will be awarded scholarship funds at the following levels:

Winner: $3,000

Second Place: $2,000

Finalists (5): $1,000 each

A total of $10,000 will be awarded to HS2AS students and alumni on December 12, 2018.

How to Apply

All applicants must submit their designs via the submittable application by Sunday, December 2 at 11:59pm. Late applications will not be considered. Deadlines/ Important Dates:

  • Call for entries opens: Tuesday, October 30th

  • Deadline to request clarification from Robert Lee: Tuesday, November 20th at 5:00pm

  • Deadline for Submission: Sunday, December 2 at 11:59pm

  • Notification: Week of December 3rd

  • Award Ceremony: Wednesday, December 12th from 6 - 8pm at Queens Council on the Arts, located in Astoria at 28-18 Steinway Street, Astoria, NY 11103

Please note that, should you be selected as scholarship recipient, you must:

  1. Attend the award ceremony to receive the award

  2. Submit your designs to LGHHAI in AI files. Please note that if you are selected as an awardee, ownership of the artwork becomes the full property of LGHHAI. LGHHAI has the right to unlimited, indefinite and unrestricted use of the design. By submitting your design to this contest, you are agreeing to relinquish all copyrights to your designs to LGHHAI if and only if you are selected a scholarship recipient.

Design Guidelines

Applicants are asked to create and submit designs for package materials for the following products. Applicants should submit designs for one of the following options by selecting either Option #1 or Option #2. Please do not submit designs for both marketing materials.

OPTION #1

redesign vdl cosmetics package set

Please submit proposals to re-design the front of packaging for VDL Cosmetics product Lumilayer Primer Set Package Box Design. Applicants are asked to design the cover of one box set that contains five products. The Lumilayer Primer Set is formulated with VDL’s trademark prismatic pearls with an iridescent sheen that makes skin look ultra-dewy while highlighting the high points of the face. Please adhere to the following design guidelines:

  • The layout should embody VDL’s disruptive image, representing the primer’s innovative texture and light-reflecting formulation

  • The Box Size: 130 mm (height) x 176 mm (length) x 39 mm (width)

option #2

redesign lucky fiji packaging

Please submit proposals to redesign packaging for the front of the Lucky Fiji Detergent Sheet outer package box. The Lucky Fiji is a sheet type of laundry detergent, which is pretty new and rare in the market. It is formulated with safe ingredients; completely dissolves in cold water; is compact, light and pre-measured; and is naturally scented by aroma therapy essential oils.

Please adhere to the following design guidelines:

  • The Box Size: 205 mm (height) x  230 mm (length)

  • The layout should embody the clarity & authenticity of the Lucky Fiji product concept - a convenient and eco-friendly laundry detergent

  • The design should visually communicate what this product is for, and why it’s different
