Postcards from Queens
A project by Queens-based artist Linda Ganjian in the historic Marine Air Terminal
Inspired by the architecture and infrastructure around her, artist Linda Ganjian attempts to find order and beauty in the urban landscape. She makes intricate ink and marker drawings of landscapes in Queens, both famous and overlooked. The drawings are then printed as postcards, and offered to airport visitors. The postcards will be labeled with the source of their imagery, offering insight into different areas of Queens.
Though some elements of the urban landscape will be recognizable, the drawings will play with patterning, symmetry, and flattened space. She aims to abstract the familiar, visually transforming it in the tradition of decorative tiles and miniature paintings. Ultimately, her goal is to encourage visitors to see the potential for beauty in the everyday, as well as to present a sense of the vastness and historical richness of the borough that they are flying through.
